By The Light of the Moon

We held a bonfire party last night. It was a beautiful night, an almost full moon, a toasty fire, good food and even better friends.

We laughed, we talked and laughed some more. The comment I heard the most this morning was "my cheeks hurt". That's the sign you had a good time!

We sipped on pink bikinis and love and peace:

Everyone pitched in with the food and drinks. We had quite the spread, from fruit and veggie trays to jalepeno boats, chocolate pie, pasta salad, lucky salsa, banana boats and s'mores.

After everyone left, Mike and I sat alone by the fire. We shared thoughts about our jobs, our society, the Bible, and our future family.

His sentiment "And then there were two", brought a quick tear to my eye, as it was a modified version of one he shares with his army buddies, "The Triad", as they call themselves.

It was a fitting end to a magical night.

And it all happened underneath the Pennsylvania moon. (which strangely enough, when you're with the right people feels just like home)

The Ma'am Controversy

What you talking 'bout Willis?

Let me 'splain.

There seems to be some confusion up here about the word "Ma'am". People seem to think its an insult, being the opposite of "Miss".  I overheard a co-worker say she feels old when someone calls her "Ma'am".  I can see where they might be confused. But it ain't so.

Naw.

"Ma'am" is a designation of  respect, and when used in a certain tone of voice, among friends, it is a term of endearment.

Now, if I were to get short and snippy, and THEN refer to you as "Ma'am", thats an insult but not the kind you think it is. I'm trying to insult you while still remaining within the limits of polite society. I'm not calling you old, but a witch.

Even though you might be.

But thats not the everyday usage.

In the everyday sense, the word "Ma'am" does not convey age, but authority, position, rank or simply respect.

It's not a four letter word. Except technically.

It's not "Yes Miss", until you reach a certain age or can no longer deny your "wrinkleyness". Its "Ma'am", as soon as someone feels the urge to show you respect, whether it be a child or a customer-service oriented cashier.

I've been called "yes ma'am", since I was around eleven or twelve.

AND I LIKE IT!

And if you don't, well, maybe you should spend some time down in God's Country....

You know, down below the Mason-Dixon line :)

(I see I'm not alone. Check out this cute t-shirt.)

Busy, Busy!

You can tell that my life has gotten busier, now that the snow is melted, because although I have made it my goal to post every day I always mess up on the weekend!

Friday I was just busy with work and doing things around the house.

Yesterday we went car shopping to try and replace my outlander and went to Mike's grandfather's/aunt and uncle's house. We chilled on the porch drinking sweet tea out of mason jars! It was great. We found a few cars we wouldn't mind buying but nothing that we really wanted.

Today I had to work at the grocery store and ended up staying over an hour. I came home, called my father and wished him a happy father's day, ate a boston butt my husband cooked, did laundry, clipped a tiny amount of coupons out of the paper and laughed over the comics. I love the one that poked fun at Oprah, and the Family Circus was really cute too.

Before heading home I scored a good deal at Giant Eagle

Hamburger Helper is usually $2 each.
This week the sale is $1 each. If you buy 5 you get a coupon for $3 off any brand of beef, chicken or tuna.

I bought six and used two coupons for a total of $3 off.
6-3=$3 +$3 Meat coupon= essentially free!!

PS: Do you have any good dessert recipes that don't use the oven?

OH! And please don't forget to vote!https://www.mkmakeovercontest.com/US/EN/Gallery/?Id=53f2b265-c360-4b5d-9187-c3555c67e994

Subtle Differences

In a few hours I will have been in my new home of PA for a week. I've begun to notice subtle differences that let me know I'm no longer home. I'm not confident enough to say that they are all North/South differences because some may just be differences within family circles.

1. All of the ice cream shops are closed. The weather I suppouse, but how I would love some Bruster's!
2. No firework stands everywhere.
3. At home we lay folded blankets over the arm of the couch. Everyone's home I've been in here, they are stretched out over the back of the couch, and are adjusted to stay that way even when someone's sitting on the couch.
4. At home only my grandma's house has a toliet seat cover. They are everywhere here.
5. On a similar note, I've noticed a lot of  towels folded over the tops of toliets, asa sort of decoration.
6. Everyone asks me to repeat myself whenever I use ya'll.
7. We have counties and towns. Here we've got counties, towns, territories,  townships and boroughs. I still can't quite figure out the last three.
8. No one refers to me as a "Reb", yet everyone reffered to Mike as a "Yankee".
9. There are lots and lots of instructional signs. On the road and in stores. And boy does Walmart mean it when their sign says "exit". The automatic door won't open from the front side.
10. I got asked if i was "southern custom" to leave the peels in the mashed potatoes by Mike's mother, leading me to think she'd never seen it that way before. Although his dad said he loved them that way. To each thier own I guess.
