I bought:
ham, cheese and bread for sandwiches
green and red peppers for sandwiches and scrambled eggs (basically the only unexpensive fresh veggie- oh baby tomatoes seem decently priced too but I didn't want to carry them)
hot dog weenies- to sautee with the peppers....mmm
eggs
bananas- for snacks and to put in our almond flake kelloggs
bugle potato chips- i think, i hope....I have a hard enough time finding these babies at home
I priced pancakes and I think it'll cost close to $20 batch, which is insane in my opinion. I looked at spaghetti stuff but due to lack of fridge space decided to wait, it'll probably cost me $6 for a few meals worth of spaghetti which isn't bad at all. And I found spaghetti sauce but I think I will spruce it up with some fresh peppers. Oh and I priced frozen corndogs today- 3 corndogs for over $4. Yikes. I miss America and our excess of corndogs. I don't even eat corn dogs very often.
Now I have to learn how to operate the stove top. Pictures would be more helpful words, but I'm a big girl and trial and error is my friend. As long as the errors aren't too big. Oh- and another thing to keep in mind is that if I have to much- the leftovers have to be reheated on the stovetop- slightly scary but doable.

Pancake Help
So, the other day at the grocery store a box of pancake mix caught my eye. Well, I'm assuming it was pancake mix because it had a picture of pancakes on the front. I really want to make pancakes. I don't read Korean and I can't for the life of me, remember what you add to pancake mix. Eggs? Water?
Could ya'll do me a huge favor and tell me what to add to the mix and how much? That way, when we go grocery shopping on Thursday I can price everything to see if making pancakes is going to cost me $20. If not, it might be worth a go.
Also, any scrambled egg spruce up ideas, or homemade spaghetti sauce with SUPER EASY TO FIND (no spices just veggies?) ingredients would be very nice as well. I've found spaghetti noodles, but haven't spotted the sauce yet.

I feel like I've been complaining a lot about the food I've been eating, so I thought I'd take a moment and highlight a few of the delicious things I've tried here, as well as my standard favorites.
Since being here I've had a few things that I've really enjoyed.
The first was at a restaurant where the food grilled in front of us. We had pork pieces, that we took and wrapped in lettuce, and topped with bean paste and onions. Mmmm Oh, and it was served with a very yummy egg souffle.
The second was a soup. It had meat stuffed dumplings and veggies in it and it was very good.
The third was grilled/smoked duck. It was at a restuarant similar to the first and served with a (eww gross) cold bones intact fish and some version of kimchi. But the duck was very enjoyable.
My fourth favorite thing:
Of course its a sweet. Mr. Groom brought these home from work for me. They have dough on the outside, chocolate and a nut on the inside (I say pecan, he says walnut, he's probably right.). And they're best when chilled.
At home?
I love love love my veggies- especially the homegrown ones like corn on the cob, tomatoes, and okra. I also loved butterbeans cooked with bacon. With them I love crumbly cheese biscuits. I also love cheeses, shrimp and grits, mushroom green pepper bacon pineapple pizza. Yum
My favorite ice cream would have to be anything with chocolate-unless its Butter Pecan. And I don't like plain chocolate. I tend to lean towards moose tracks, reeses, and rocky road.
Drink? Water
Alcoholic Drink? This is tough. I love red wine, I don't love the headaches it gives me. I love rum and pineapple, hot chocolate with brandy, homemade lemonade and vodka, bahama mama's, pina coladas, daiquris and mudslides. Basically, when it comes to alcholic beverages I defintely drink too many calories.
Dessert? This is a killer. I love cookies. I love icecream. I'm not a big cake person- unless its homemade or I made it. Because I love to make cupcakes. So basically, the answer here should be anything with chocolate. (As you couldn't tell from my blog title I love chocolate)

It was oh so very nice
We walked in and I looked up. Sparkly chandeliers hung from the ceiling, posh puffy black chairs lined the walls and tall golden mirrors stood infront of them. We sat down to wait and were offered drinks. I went first. A young woman clad in leggings, a black skirt and a sparkly jersey with the word "Seniors" emblazoned across her chest cut and styled my hair. I've been told that the most style savvy people wear shirts with English on them. I bet I must look super cool.
It was the nicest salon I've ever been in, yet we both got our haircut for $15 total. I usually pay $12 for mine alone. This- from a place where shoes are usually $138. I don't understand it.

5 Question Friday with My Little Life
Happy Happy Friday! Its Friday afternoon where I am so I'm going to go ahead and post these from My Little Life. I'll link up when its your Friday.
1. If you could go back to college would you change your major? Or, if you were to go to college right now...what major would you choose?
Doubtful. But I might add on Marketing, instead of just minoring, but then I wouldn't be able to graduate early.
2. What do you love most about your home?
Ummm....I don't have my own home yet, but I'm loving my dorms big closets. Right now, the best thing about the apartment in South Korea is that my hunny is here too.
3. What types of books do you like to read (if you like to read at all)?
Romance, mystery, historical fiction, fantasy, any combination of the above.
4. What is the grossest thing you've ever eaten?
Hmmm...taste wise or concept wise? Concept wise probably would be chocolate covered crickets or sushi, taste wise it would have to be either mayo green beans

Gilligan from Gilligan's Island. Hands down.

A Short Side Note...
I had McDonalds today.
I never thought I would compare french fries to a taste of heaven. But I did. In my head because I didn't want Mr. Groom to think I was crazy. Don't get me wrong, the food I've had hasn't been bad. But the french fries didn't require chopsticks and didn't have a funky sauce on them. Ahhh...

Several Topics One Post
I'm getting lazy or something. So I'm going to do another list topic post.
1. Cancer
It seems as if everyone here is afraid of getting cancer. They stand way back from the crosswalk in the shade to prevent skin cancer. I've heard that eating crispy/burnt meat will cause cancer. I've heard that taking a pill-like Tylenol- without food in your stomach will give you cancer
2. Staring
I was defintely not expecting this one. We get stared at for 3 reasons. And I think it bothers Mr. Groom more than it bothers me. I tend to think- if they want to stare lets give them a show. But he is the opposite. It must bother me some or I would not be blogging about it. Everyone stares at us because we are white. Especially the little kids. We get stared at even more when we wear sunglasses. Maybe they think the sunglassses keep us from seeing the stares. We get stared at a ton when we hold hands. PDA is very limited here, unless it is between two female friends, or two drunk busineness men. Our friend A and I can walk down the street holding hands with no staring. I take that back, we could if we were both Asian. The fact that I'm not Asian causes us some stares
3. I could never ever drive a car here. Even if I could read the signs. People don't look. Drivers don't look, don't care if you're walking or if you have the green signal. They don't look when they turn and another car is there. I've seen so many almost accidents. Pedestrians don't look either. They just run across the road.

C is for Changwon, South Korea
Thats where I am right now. I've been here since my Sunday night- USA Sunday morning. There is a 13 hour time difference between here and South Carolina.
For letter C, I'm going to blog about a few things I've noticed so far.
1. Chopsticks. (Another C! go me!!) How did I forget that I would have to use chopsticks? I totally should of practiced. Remember A is for Accident Prone? It could just have easily been filed under Coordination (Lack of). I am not adept at using chopsticks. No where close. First, I'm left handed so having our friend A show me how to hold them took a bit. And then I had to learn how to actually use them. I think she told me they use their back 3 fingers to move them, but Mr. Groom holds them more like pencils. Silly me, the first thing I tried to practice on was sushi. Note to self: sushi is very soft and will break when squeezed.
2. I had a bit of trouble yesterday getting around because I'm used to using signs and words as my markers. But, while there are some English signs they are few and far between. And I am not familar with Korean characters so I don't recognize them when I'm walking. So I've learned some basic landmarks: Bank, tennis court looking field, wind tunnel parking lot, cross the double street, restaurant with piles of wood outside, pharmacy.
3. Speaking of pharmicies, hospital patients here don't have to stay in the hospital. They are free to go about their daily lives, pushing their IVs around with them
4. Sunglasses. A says the older generation hates them and tends to think people are sleeping when they wear them. So instead they carry umbrellas or wear HUGE visors. I think I might want to buy a korean umbrella- they are very pretty- but I can't tell if the ones the ladies carry in the sun are not water proof parasols or double duty umbrellas.
5. Lets talk food. Yesterday, my first Korean meal was a fried porkchop paired with a bunch of other things. There was a rice porridge type thing (very oatmealy- not my cup of tea), several types of sushi which I tried for the first time. It had an okay taste, because it was mostly rice, but everytime I thought "raw fish" I'd start to get queasy. So I had to force my self not to think about it. There was also kimichi (sp?), or spicy cabbage, which wasn't too bad. Next to the sushi, were some vegetable looking things. I tried one- pickeled radish. And Mr. Groom pointed out that the other things were garlic, so I didn't try it. The fried porkchop was the best though. And it was easy to eat with the chopsticks. Today I walked with Mr. Groom to work and he ordered us both Lunch Club sandwiches. I had slightly spicy Sun chips and lemonade. Best damn lemonade ever. Go figure. The Lunch Club had bacon, lettuce, cheese and egg, and maybe turkey. And two different sauces that of course dripped all love me. I'm going to feast on vegetables when I come home Oh- and today I learned that there is a western grocery store. I got very excited when Mr. Groom told me about it. I was dissapointed to learn that is very expensive- $7 for peanut butter. I think if I was here alone I'd deal with those prices for a block of cheese and some peanut butter. We're suppoused to go grocery shopping tomorrow, so I'll have things for dinner-because he eats dinner at work.
6. I have a feeling I might lose most of my vocabulary while I'm here. For example, Mr. Groom ordered our lunch this way "Lunch Club. Two (holds up two fingers). Cola. Lemonade. Here (points to the ground). I'm just thankful that as many people speak English as they do- it reminds me a bit of my visit to France, where a lot of the restuarant people spoke enough English to get your order. I always say thank you, even if I'm pretty positive I'm not understood. I should learn how to say thank you in Korean.
7. I don't know why. I really have no clue. But I am awfully tempted to speak Spanish. It would probably do me less good than English, but everytime I don't understand (like in the airport) something, I am tempted to give it a go in Spanish. Korean and Spanish don't even share a similar alphabet. What is wrong with my brain?

5 Question Friday 4 Days Late
I'm late with 5 question Friday at My Little Life, but I love answering questions so I figured I'd do it anyway. Besides, once you hear my travel disaster story you won't hold it against me.
1. Is there something you've always wanted to try but just can't muster up the courage to actually do yet?
Ha. Several things- from skydiving to starting an Etsy shop. Ok the Etsy shop is mostly a motivational/time mangagement problem
2. If you had $100 handed to you in cash without your significant other knowing about it, what would you spend it on?
Hmm...usually I'd say books, but now it'd probably be his wedding gift
3. What was your favorite piece of playground equipment as a child?
Slides
4. Do you prefer a sweet or hearty breakfast? Usually sweet but lately (over the past year or so) I am not able to do sweet things early in the morning. But I always love choclate chip or reeses pancakes. And french toast. Just for dinner.
5. Are you a Neat Freak or a Messy Bessy?
I'm in between really. I hate messes and clutter, but I tend to get a little sloppy when I'm busy and then clean it all up again.

B is for Beach Bum
I love the beach. Offer me the beach and I’m yours. My ninth grade boyfriend promised me that the when he married he wanted to own a private beach. Boy did I try hard. Thankfully it didn’t work out and 4 years later I met the man of my dreams. Ironically, he hates the beach. He’s my mountain man. Good thing I love the mountains too. I just love the beach more.
I mean the beach has the ocean. I love the ocean. I love to get deep enough where I can just drift around, rocked by the waves. Being in the ocean is a humbling experience. It is so big and powerful and I am so small and weak. Sometimes the current is so strong; it feels almost useless to fight against it. Other times, the ocean cradles me gently, holding me safely still. My relationship with the ocean mirrors my relationship with God. The days I try to run or fight his will are the days his strong current of love pushes back and sets me on the right path. The days I am in sync with him are the days I feel cradled in love. Many people debate God’s love and kindness vs. his power, force and anger. I think that like the ocean he is the perfect balance.
On a less serious note, I almost drowned one time in the ocean. I was maybe fifteen or sixteen and had been swimming with my girlfriend and some cute boys and their grandfather. We all started to swim in, but I kept getting pushed back from the current. The grandfather sent the boys back in to pull me out. To this day, my mother accuses me of faking drowning to get the boys to help me.
I thought about posting this under O or W since a lot of it deals with the ocean and water, but there are plenty of other great things about the beach as well. I love to lay out and bask in the sun. I love to read and nap on the beach. I love to take walks and pick up pretty sea shells- always with some craft project in mind that I never start. Maybe I’ll use them on my Caribbean table at my wedding reception.

B is for Boudoir Photos
I want to have these taken and give them to Mr. Groom in a nice album as my wedding gift to him. I love the idea of doing a shoot and have found several images I would like to copy. I've found some great photographers- but most of them are either out of my budget or expects to shoot in my house.
Ummm. I don't have a house. I live in a dorm. Mess, bad lighting and a roommate. I don't want them shot there. I'm having trouble finding an affordable photographer with a studio I can take them in. But- I have contacted a few photographers I haven't heard back from yet- so there is hope. Especially since I don't need to take them until this fall.
Has anyone done this? How was it? Did you like it? Did he? How much did you pay? Did you shoot at home?
I hope to be posting another B is for post this week. I'd like to do two more but that may be overly ambitious since I am flying to South Korea Friday.

An Example of How Irrational My Mother Can Be (1 of 1 million+)
Here's the background:
1. For years my mom has told me that if I keep my grades up in college she will let me drive our outlander, at no cost. She has also promised a new to me car at my college graduation.
2. My mother is upset that I'm finishing college in 3.5 years. If I had not studied abroad I would have finished this semester, in 3 years. "I don't know why you can't ever be normal!" She acts like it took me 6 years to get a four year degree. Wouldn't you be proud that your daughter could finish early?
Here is the main example:
My fiance and I are trying to plan out our finances. He brought up the point of "my car". I decided to ask my mom, that since she was paying for most of my wedding if she wanted me just to keep the red outlander. Here was my thinking- even recently shes talked about getting me a new car, the outlander is already paid for, if i keep it my family still has one car for everyperson that drives and I have the outlander all of the time anyway. Essentially, she would not lose anything on this deal.
Her response:
Well, I know I'm not getting you a new car because you didnt go the full four years. (Like I dropped out or something). And I don't know if we'll let you keep the outlander because I need a dress to wear to your wedding.
Umm...okay? How does letting me keep the car I've been driving for 4 years affect your ablity to get a new dress for my wedding? Surely, you're not going to sell the car and buy a dress? The car is paid for, so you're not making payments...
Her response: Well. We just have a lot to pay for, so I don't know if we can buy you a car.
Oh boy. Mom I don't think you were listening. I dont want a new car. I'm asking if I can just keep my car.
Her response: Well, what will I drive?
What do you drive now?
Her: The silver car.
Is something wrong with it?
Her: No.
Well, if you want I guess I could drive that one if you want the outlander.
Her: No. The silver car is mine. I'm going to drive it.
So, basically, the outlander will just sit in the driveway?
Her: Well.....I guess.
Have mercy.

Mono Induced Blogger's Block, AKA: I'm going to ramble today
Go figure. I'm expected to sit around and do nothing, so I think I'll have time to catch up on blogging and writing. Wrong. All I can do is eat popsicles and think about how much wedding stuff I'm not getting done.
Well, I'm starting to feel better and sleep less. Which is great because my sleep has been horribe. Interrupted and psychotic. I did dream about blogging. I got so mad with my blog in my dream that I shoved my computer out the window. And then I woke up.
I decided that taking vitamins might help my body heal faster so I've been taking my younger sisters Flintstone Gummies vitamins. Those things are just like candy. I have to make myself stop at the recommended dose of two for anyone over the age of four. I wonder if I'm over five times the age of four if I can have one more?
I maybe sorta kinda possibly found a photographer. He takes great photographs. His package (hehe): 2 photographers from the beginning of the wedding-end of the recption for $400. Amazing deal. He has another wedding at 3pm that day. He's told me he can be at my venue before 7 (ceremony start time) but he's not sure how much before 7. Should I grab the deal and find someone to take my getting ready and posed pictures? Should I turn him down? I've got one more appointment on Monday so I guess I'll be able to make a decision after that.

Fridays here! Not that I've noticed much because I've been home sick all week. But here is 5 question Friday with My Little Life

Second grade was amazing. I had a wonderful teacher. Whenever my friends and I would get done with out work she would let us pick out and rehearse a play which we would later perform for the entire school!
3. What makes you cringe at the thought of touching?

Oprah- and she would offer to pay for my wedding

MONO
Sucks

Ballz.
Ugh. I hada sore throat all weekend. I went to the doctor yesterday thinking I had strep throat, he'd shoot me up with antibotics and I'd be all better in a few days. Wrong. The nurse drianed my finger of blood and then told me I had mono.
I've done nothing but sleep and eat popsicles lately. I've been making myself eat today- yougurt this morning, and chicken soup this afternoon. I'm preparing my throat for a glass of OJ with extra vitamin C& D tonight. I'll be damned if I'll be too sick to fly to see my fiance in S. Korea next Friday. I'm putting most of my wedding planning stuff on the back burner until I'm better.
Please put me in your prayers.

Photographer Search Woes
I'm trying to book a photographer over the next two weeks before I leave for South Korea but for some the prices are ridiculous, and for others I just can't get the coverage I'd like.
Here is my dream photography package: I would love getting ready pictures, posed pictures of all of the bridal party, ceremony pictures, pictures of guests dancing at the recption, picures of our entrance and first dance, pictures of the faughter daughter and mother son dance, pictures of the cake cutting, bouquet toss and garter toss and of our sparkler lined exit. I'd love to have a bridal portriat taken too. Preferably all for less than $1000.
The real deal?
The first photographer I talked to was someone I'd worked with before. She's taken my senior pictures and has taken family portraits.She's willing to be there from when I get ready until the end of the But she wants close to $2000. And on a $5000 budget thats not happening.
The second has a basic package starting at $900. The price sounds great. Its a minimium of 125 pictures and 3 hours worth of coverage. Sounds good -if he could be there for two hours, leave for an hour and then come back. I don't want pictures of the middle of the recpetions as much as I do the special dances at the beginning and the garter and bouquet toss at the end, as well as our exit through the sparklers.
I've got another appointment on Monday with a photographer friend of my dads. Guess I'll see how that goes and then make my decision. I may have to prioritize my "shot list" and work from there According to the phone book, there is another photographer in ther area but he isn't answering the phone.

A is for Accident Prone
I am very accident prone.
I am so accident prone that I have become numb to the fact. Seriously, I run into doors and don't even notice it anymore. My fiance and I were in Gettysburg once. We were in a cute shop and on our way out I ran into the door and kept walking. My fiance stopped and looked at me.
"Are you okay?", he asked.
"Yeah. Why?"
"Uh...You just smacked into that door."
"Oh."
Apparently, I ran into him many times on that trip as well. No clue.
When I was a child my dad would look at me playing and ask me how I got a certain brusise. My response "what bruise? where?"
When I was or 5 years old I fell of my mother's bed and broke my collarbone. I fell all of the time as a child and she would usually laught at me until I started laughing back. This time she laughed for about ten minutes straight before she realized something was really wrong.
Freshman year of highschool. I wore my "hooker heels" as my fiance calls them (knee length black boots) and a cute skirt. Cue the rain. I walked into lunch, very confident and flaunting my stuff- or lack thereof. And slid and busted my tail on the cafeteria floor.
I recently registered for wedding gifts at William Sonoma. My friends were very skeptical about this process and about encouraging anyone to buy me gifts from there because everything in the story is freaking breakable. "You know no one on your side of the family is going to get you anything from there, right?". Shut up.

New Blog Challenge: ABCs of a Chocoholic
I'm starting a personal blog challenge- the ABCS of Chocoholic. Each week will be dedicated to a certain letter, and I'll have to post at leasr one letter themed post a week. Please fell free to suggest topics that you'd like to read about, ask about or know my opinion on for any letter. I'll compile a list and write about them when that letter comes up. If you don't suggest anything I'll write about either a topic I have an opinion on, a random fact.adjective relating to me or this blog or something similar. I'll be starting this week off with the letter "A". I hope to post my first post by Monday afternoon.
Kettle Bottom by Diane Fisher
I've read this book twice. It was required summer reading for my freshman year of college and I added it to my senior seminar reading list because of the influence it had on a segment of my final project.
Fisher's collection of poetry presents the tale of a small coal mining town in West Virgina. She transitions between several characters in the town and touches on all of the aspects of peoples lives that coal mining reaches- cleaning, sex, education, death, marriage, parenting.
I love this colllection. I think that switiching speakers really helps to present the full view of the town. I especially love this book because although its poetry there is an underlining story that connects all of the pieces.
I was so inspired by this book that I've begun to write my own series of poems called Westbound Hope, about a woman (Hope) whose family is traveling west (think oregon trail) at the insistence of her husband. So far the series is only a few poems long and is mostly from Hope's point of view, with one poem from her husband's. I'll let you know if the series ever makes it anywhere.
Anyway, if you like poems, but aren't big on having to "dig deep" to decipher..er find... the meaning of things then add this book to your reading list. If you're like me its a mile long already.

Wedding Reception Plans in the Making
I am strongly considering doing a dessert reception, with desserts from various countries. The desserts I'm thinking about are:
1Belgian Gingerbread
2Swedish Butter Cookies
3.Australian Bachelor Buttons or
4. Austalian Baby Banana Souffle
5Chinese Fortune Cookies
6. ChineseAlmond Cakes
7. Japanese Sweet Potatoe Candy
8. Dutch Fritters
9. Scottish Tiffins
10. Scottish Millionaire Shortbread
11. English Apple Butterscotch Pie
12. Baklava
With Mexican Coffee and Hot Chocolate (with marshamllows and chocolate sugar and cinnamon and possibly frozen chocolate spoons yay!)
Two Problems:
1. Narrowing down the dessert list to about 7 different desserts. Any opinions on must keeps or must gos? I LOVE both tiffins and millonaire shortbread, but i think more people would live the shortbread. Its going to be so hard to decide. I'll let you know my decision after I talk with the caterer this week. But before then, I'd love some input. Feel free to suggest other desserts for the list too! I'm in the brainstorming part right now.
2. What time to have the wedding. 7pm seems like the perfect start time for the ceremony, putting the guests at the reception a little after 7:30. However, I've been told from a few people that after the ceremony I won't make it to the reception for an hour and a half (taking pictures), putting me there at 9. Please tell me that was an outrageous estimate.
The reception ends at 1130. I'd like to be there for a little longer than that. Also, I dont want to take pictures for more than 45 minutes. I want to take as many pictures (me and my ladies, the flower girls and ring bearers, fiance and his men, shots of the parents, shots of groomsman and bridesmaids) before the wedding as possible. Do you think its possible to take all the other pics in 45 minutes or less?
Personally, I'd rather do them all before but I know my mom will have a fit about the bride and groom seeing each other before the ceremony. I don't care because there is a huge chance that we'll be walking down the aisle together holding hands (to Amazing Grace played on the bagpipes).
If the pictures do take that long, is 6:30 to early to start the ceremony if I'm having a dessert reception?

Great Wedding Idea
My BFF/Maid of Honor just had the best centerpiece idea yet:
We're going to give each table a city/country/region theme, and decorate accordingly
So far our ideas are:
1. carribean- decorate with shells
2. europe- taxis, eiffel tower figurines
3. asia- fans, flowers
I need at least one more table idea. Good Ole USA? Suggestions? Would also love suggestions for how to deocrate the other tables, or if you think more specefic ideas, like paris, vegas,changwon (korea), and a carribean city would go over better?
Oh and I want the food table to be decorated with minisuitcases and transportation figurines.

Wedding Ideas Wanted!
Put on your brainstorming caps!
I need some help.
Travel is important to both me and Mr. Groom, so I want to incorporate it into our wedding. We both love to travel, we have been on and off long distance during out relationship, and a lot of our family and friends will be traveling to our wedding. I also like the idea of marriage as a journey.
That being said, I need your help in two ways:
1.General: I need ways to infuse this theme throughout our wedding.
I've thought about getting some globes to serve as centerpieces, with the addition of some flowers and (sailboat shaped!) candles. But, notthings final yet so, let me know if you have any other centerpiece ideas. Our guest book is a going to be a post card collection, where our guests can leave us sweet messages. Instead of a card box, I bought this cute white tray ($5!) that has the names of famous cities written across it.Again, I would show you a picture my the camera cord is still on vacation. And I really want to take a picture of the two of us kissing and holding suitcases (preferably old ones), to send as wedding announcements! I'd love any ideas you have for decoration as well as for food.
2: Specefic: I really want to tie this theme into our programs. I also would like to DIY my programs. And I would like something different than just the usual.
I think the programs on wavy sticks and tied with a bow are really cute. But-they are very reminscent of fans, and our wedding is in December. Any suggestions for how I can tie the theme into the programs? I'm thinking along the lines of a road map- but that seems to cheesy. I'm playing with the idea of making them look like ribbon tied passports?
Suggest away! I'm going to go grab a drink (not really- I've sworn of booze and sweets for a while. Since when? Since last night when I didn't like my reflection in the Victoria Secret mirror-So, a screwdriver it is! Hold the vodka please!)

I'm going to be honest. I had to read this book for a history class and write a paper on it.
I'm going to be honest. I completely love this book!
Drakulic writes about life in Eastern Europe after the fall of Communism. She touches a bit on her personal life, but this isn't an autobiography. I'd probably classify it as a social commentary, in which the author uses examples from her life to make her point. I like reading "historical" things, but they tend to be on the dryer side so I tend not to recommend them as "for fun" reads, but if your booklist has a histtorical lean, then you might want to give this one a try. Drakulic's sharp wit really adds to the book and keeps you turning the pages. Give it a try and read about a gaudy pink bathroom, how hard it is/was to buy a vaccum cleaner in Easter Europe, American teeth, and the trouble with sales. Through humor and many examples Drakulic takes you through big topics like capitalism, communism, activism, guilt, fear of the other and social responsiblity.
I'm planning on checking out Drakulic's other books: How We Survived Communism and Even Laughed and The Taste of a Man.

In A Planning Mood
As you may or may not know, I'm spending the summer in South Korea with Mr. Groom. I leave at the end of May and come back at the end of August. I'm getting married December 18th. That means I have a lot to do in the next few weeks. I need to book a photographer for the wedding and for boudoir photos, book a caterer, a DJ and a florist. I also have to order invitations- thankfully I've already picked those out. I also have to address, stamp and mail save the dates. I've looked at photographers already I just need to make and decision (and hopefully haggle down prices). My dad has made DJ and caterer suggestions and my mom has checked out florists- I just have to decide which ones best. I'm not going to have time to catch my breath over the next few weeks. (Thats just the wedding stuff, I also have to shop and pack for the summer- have to take all the tolietries I'll need with me, restock Mr. Groom's supply, buy his birthday present. My sister's graduating n from high school and a beloved mentor is retireing. This is also finals week)
So what did I so today?
Made a calendar! I filled out a lot of dates in the calendar section of my wedding planning book. But I love love LOVE to organize and plan, so that wasn't enough. If I could find the cord that connects my camera to my computer I'd show you what I did.
I pulled out an index card for each month and wrote the name of the month on the blank side. I combined June and July since I'll be out of the country and can only do things like look for shoes, buy postcards and keep and eye out for cool decorations and gifts, and hound the hunny to make decisions about his groomsman.
On the lined sides I wrote out everything that had to get done that month. For example, under May I wrote:
- Book a Caterer
-Book a DJ
-Book a florist
-Book the photographer
-Buy the garter I want from Etsy (I'm scared it will get gone!)
-Order Invitations
-Keep an eye on ebay for inexpensive globes (if anyone has one they don't want anymore please let me know!)
-Talk two the 2 bridesmaids I know haven't looked for bridesmaid dresses about what the other girls have picked out
-Start making my ring bearer pillows (I'm making them from the wrap that came with my prom dress!)
-Offically ask my cousins (and their parents) if the can/want to be ring bearers, flower girls and ushers
-Mail the Save the Dates
-start asking around for postcards (since we're doing a travel theme we're having guests write messages on postcards instead of simply signing a book. if you feel the need to send me some postcards just holler!)
Whew! Can you believe all of that fit on the back of one index card?
After I wrote them all out I ordered them and left a blank index card inbetween each month, in case my todo list expands and then clipped them together. Now, they fit perfectly in the pockets of my planner, in my pocketbook or in my pants pockets.

Gift Ideas Needed
I am considering asking my two oldest male cousins to serve as ushers in my wedding. Both are in high school. One will probably be helping seat guests and the oldest will be in charge of playing the prelude songs I picked out on a CD.
I can't get them "cutesy" gifts like their younger siblings who are serving as flower girls and ring bearers, but they're not old enough to recieve engraved flasks/beer mugs like the groomsman and older ushers.
Any suggestions?

They Threw Me in the Fountain!
At the college I attend its tradition for the friends of a girl who gets engaged to throw her in fountain. Well, I've been engaged since December so I was waiting on it. Thankfully they waited until it was spring and the fountain wasn't frozen.
My friends planned a scavengar hunt that led me around campus. The last clue led me to the fountain. They had tied red and white balloons to the fountain and laid out a picnic complete with Zaxbys chicken and mini-cupcakes.
When I got to the fountain they picked me up and tossed me in! Actually, the fountains pretty shallow so they set me in the fountain, and then climbed in to take a picture with me. Here are the pictures:

A Quick History Lesson
I took my History of the British Empire FINAL EXAM today! I loved this class. There is one thing from this class that I will always remember:
During WW2, not long after Pearl Harbor, Japan tried to invade Austalia in the Battle of the Coral Sea. The United States sent what ships they had available to help blunt the attack. Australia's national language is not Japanese, so we can deduce the results....but Japan was trying pretty hard to make it that way. In fact, the Japanese govenment paid their troops in Japanese currency only redeemable in the "Japanese province of Australia". What a motivator!
Not only for the Japanese. When the American troops found the currecny they passed the bills out to Australian soldiers.

Finally Added New ATMS
I've been so busy lately I haven't had time to do all the bloggy things I thought I would. If you remember way back when I used to post abour my ATM (at the moment) favorites and then add them to the rotating widget at the top.
Today I added:
Bride Magazine
- I recieved a subscription as part of my entrance fee to a wedding expo. They've got some cute ideas- that have spurred much less expensive ideas of my own
Merci Chocolate
- This stuff is absolutely amazing. When I registered at Target I got a coupon for a free 20 piece box. 7 different chocolate flavors. I'm hooked. Whenever I have a house, all of my guests are getting a box of this on their pillows. Mmmm.....
Today I added:

And A Registering We Will Go
Yesterday was exhausting. I never thought registering for gifts could be so intense, or that there were so many options for can openers.
My bestfriend and I went to Bed Bath and Beyond (BBB) yesterday, since Mr. Groom is out of the country until this fall. We both love to shop and love the store so we were both pretty excited.
We registered for kitchen, basic cleaning and dining materials, but skipped over what BBB employees refer to as the "Soft side"- meaning bed and bath stuff. I wanted to wait on this because they're is a stong chance that Mr. Groom and I will be heading to South Korea for up to two years after our wedding .We'll always need kitchen stuff and plates, but our bath and defintely bathroom needs have the potential to vary greatly after we're home. Who knows how big those rooms will be or what size bed we'll have our what color decorative pillows we'll need?
I was so thankful to have BBB employee walk around with us, explaining what brides usually register for, the typical amounts and pointing out things in my favorite colors. It was so nice to have him there explaining everything and to have my friend there to help pick things that went together and fit in with my tastes. Thanks girl! You were a huge help!
Oh- and BBB employees kept offering us drinks and snacks throuhout the entire process. How sweet!
I highly recommend registering at BBB. They're very helpful. BUT I think I'd like to walk around the store once again, on my own, to register for things that the BBB employee didn't take me to- like picnic baskets and ice cream makers.
The funniest part of our experience?
We explained to the BBB team memeber about my best FEMALE friend being the one to go with me, because Mr. Groom is out of thecountry until right before the wedding, but the entire registry team came over at the end and as we left, we heard:
"Congragulations you two!"

I was sitting on a barstool. My younger sister wanted my seat. She bit my hand and latched on. Then she picked up her feet and hung from my arm. She must've been about 4.
2. What was YOUR naughtiest childhood memory? (Must be something YOU did, no pawning it off on someone else!)
The thing that first comes to mind is kickiny friends older brother in the balls when he came to pick her up.

The beach, the pool, the lake....basically by the water

Found a New Blog to Follow
I've been wanting to read this book for a long time but I haven't had time to read it. Today I stumbled across Molly Wizenburg's blog. I've only skimmed a bit of it but it looks amazing so far! Lots of lovely stories and ancedotes complete with appropriate recipes.

I've looked on Amazon ($38 and free shipping!!!) but have only been able to find them in black and purple. If anyone knows where I can get these for a similar low price please chime in!

DAMN AIRLINES!
My fiance and I have been waiting for forever for airline prices to drop so I can visit him in S Korea this summer. Well, tonight they did but everytime we try to buy the flight we get a "this flight is not available" message. On several differnt flights and flight times!
Its so frustrating. He had to go off (123hour time differences puts it lunch time there) and I dont have enough money in my checking account to buy the ticket alone so we're done messing with it for now. I guess I'll find out in the morning if he was able to get a plane ticket below our price cut-off.
I'm heading to bed and placing this in God's hands. Maybe this is a sign that the fare will drop more and we should wait....who knows...I guess we'll find out.

Cooking Advice
Has anyone tried any of these cookbooks?
I like the idea of being able to cook multiple servings, freeze and serve later. Especially since it'll be just the two of us. I really really like the idea of spending one Friday afternoon buying groceries and one Saturday cooking and be set for a month. But I'm not sure if its realistic/feasible. Any other cookbook suggestions or reviews of these books/methods would be greatly appreciated.

A "Weddinging" Day
Today I went with two of my bridesmaids a new good friend to David's Bridal. They both found beautiful dresses! One has pockets (totally cool) and the other has lots of sparkles!
And then we went to Williams Sonoma where I opened my first wedding registry! It was totally an exhilarating experience, although it did get overwhelming at times. So I signed up for the 'fun stuff" today- like baking equipment, towels, spatulas, pancake pens, and the "easy stuff", like dutch ovens, bread baskets, and platters I'd been eyeing. I purposefully stayed away from things like knifes and pots and pans because I want my fiance to have more of a say in those things. I also didn't register for things like a griddle, blender, ice cream maker or food processor because I think I want to register for those at places like Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. It was so much fun to pick out things!

I've recently discoverd My Little Life's blog. She posts 5 questions every friday. I'm going to take a stab at this week's
1. What was the first car you owned?
I haven't-yet.
2. What song are you embarrassed to know the lyrics to?
Hmmm..well I can't think of the songs name...but I can sing it! Its that song "brush my teeth with a bottle of jack.....cause when i leave for the night i ain't comin' back". i hate that song.
3. Have you ever had stitches?
Kinda. In my mouth for wisdom teeth. I'm pretty sure they dissolved on their own.
4. What was your first job?
Scorekeeper and announcer at the baseball field. I loved it. I could watch a game, hang with my friends, flirt, and get paid, all at the same time. I occasionally took my homwork.
5. Who is your favorite Sesame Street character?
I was never big into Sesame Street so I'll just go with Big Bird on this one.

Crazy Momma
My mother is crazy. She's driving me that way.
1. She's opposed to anything but a Christmas themed wedding in December.
2. She's opppsed to having the wedding anywhere but Hartsville because its too long of a drive. But she's okay with driving to the beach for a wedding.
3. She's opposed to having the reception in a better location because its 15 minutes down the road and its too far.
4. Her only alternate location she'd consider for the reception is the church fellowship hall. This is not a good idea because they don't allow alcohol. If I'm going to be around my mom for an entire weekend I'm going to need alcohol.
5. She thinks we shouldn't have music at the reception because "less is more".
Suggestions for parental control?

Making Progress
I'm still working on finding a sizable reception venue. But I do have : A WEDDING DRESS. I paid off my dress today- and tried it on and its so wonderfully beautiful!
I also have a bunch of stamps. Well not technically, but I bid on them on Ebay, so I will have them soon. Why stamps? Well, they're stamps from all over the world that I want to use as seals on my wedding invites or on my RSVP "tickets". What the heck?
I want to have a travel themed wedding. I want to decorate with globes (anybody have one I can borrow?) and old suitcases and old maps. And place disposable cameras on tables for guests to take pictures during the wedding. For a guest book I want to have a large collection of postcards for people to write messages on and then slide into a postcard album (which means I'm going to be soliciting my friends for unmarked postcards from their towns/states/provinces/countries. I want to dance to the song "You belong to me". I want to make passport inspired invitations and "ticket" style RSVP cards.

Scotland, In My Mind
Lately, I've been oddly reminiscent of my semester in Scotland. I think about it and picture the gardens and taste the steak bakes. I feel the grass in my feet as I walk through the Necropolis, I can hear the "sorry"s and "hen"s and "paper roll"s. I can feel the weight of the pounds in my pockets. I hear the bag pipe bands as we walk the streets on Saturday. I hear the laughter of children, taste the apples that bloomed right in front of my kitchen window. I savor the Cornish ice cream tossed in with frozen berries and currants. I see myself watching Sarah try cornbread for the first time and offering us her Jaffa Cakes. I see the pink feathers glued to Caitlin's kitchen counter from our wing making escapade.
Never, do I remember the rain or the wind. Or the days I just wanted to take a taxi back to my room and hide because the wind was blowing slicing rain at me in three different directions, rendering my umbrella utterly useless. Never, do I remember the frustration at not having things done "on time", at having to brush up on my expected knowledge of Celtic History or at having to scrub the kitchen down before I could make dinner.
Instead, I remember the Scotland of my memory. The Scotland that stands for freedom, beauty, good drinks with good friends, adventure, dreams and the right to stare at kilt clad men in all of their sexy glory.
Because these are things we will remember way past our 80th birthdays. We will tell them to our children, and grandchildren in stories about the days of our youth, or show them in the habits and words we picked up. They are the memories that will last past our last sunset.

Hard Time Adjusting
I'm having a hard time mentally adjusting to the Hartsville wedding. I keep thinking of how pretty the Alumnae House would bedecorated for Christmas. Not to mention how much bigger it is than the pavillion and the fact that it had a really sweet set up and wrap around porch. It also had fireplaces with mantles that I'd already mentlally decorated.
Dont get me wrong the pavillion is nice but its just not what I had in mine. I want people to be able to eat and move and dance and mingle and I feel like the pavillion is too cramped. It also doesnt have many decoration possiblites.
I'm trying to come to terms, but it makes me sad to think about all of the plans I had, and how amazing it would've been. I guess I need to quit thinking about it though because they'res not really anything I can do about it now.

Trip to the Drive-In
Saturday I went to the drivein movie with two of my Wofford friends.
Before the movie we stopped for dinner at VZ's Big Easy, a cajun/creole restaurant in Aiken, where we ate on the front porch. This place was incredible. The food was amazing. We spilt stuffed mushrooms. And we all ordered the gumbo. It was amazing and with it we were served rolls and salad. My meal cost roughly $10 and was worth several dollars more. To top it all off, the service was incredible. My drink never ran low, our server came back several times and when I ventured inside the restaurant to find the restroom I was immediately greeted with a "Yes Ma'am?". Definitely worth a stop if you're ever around Aiken.
This was my second time going to the drive in and I absolutely love it. I wish there was one closer to me so I could more often. For $7 you get to see two new movies. Such a deal. This time we only stayed for the first movie, because we all had a early morning.
We saw How to Train Your Dragon. It was such a cute movie, and I think the first I've seen about Vikings. I'm not sure I liked that the Vikings had noticeably Scottish accents although I did enjoy listening to Craig Ferguson throughout the movie. (I think somethings telling me I miss Scotland)

Wedding Plans Starting to Come Together!
We've nixed the idea of getting married in the Grand Canyon (Although, it still sounds pretty romantic), in favor of a celebration where our families and friends can be present. We think thats a pretty important part of a wedding. So we've picked the date- DECEMBER 18TH.
I booked the church (Kellytown Baptist Church) and the reception (Lawton Park Pavillion) today! My cakes been designed- just has to be ordered. My dress gets picked up this week. I need shoes, earrings and a strapless bra. I need to find invites, flowers, music and all of the finishing touches.

Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies and the Beach Help Beat the Homework Blues
Tuesday I made some banana chocolate chip cookies for my trip to the beach. I didn't follow the recipe exactly because I didn't see the point in buying whole wheat flour that would just take up shelf space after I used the half a cup or the point in making chocolate chips into shreds. Oh and I left out the walnuts, well because I dont like walnuts and I was going to sub them with pecans, then I realized I was out of pecans.
So here's the recipe:
• 1 cup(s) all-purpose flour
• 1/2 cup(s) whole-wheat flour
• 1 teaspoon(s) coarse salt
• 1/2 teaspoon(s) baking soda
• 3/4 cup(s) (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
• 1/2 cup(s) granulated sugar
• 1/2 cup(s) packed light-brown sugar
• 1 large egg
• 1 1/2 teaspoon(s) pure vanilla extract
• 1/2 cup(s) (about 1 large) mashed ripe banana
• 1 cup(s) old-fashioned rolled oats
• 8 ounce(s) semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped into 1/4-inch chunks
1/2 cup(s) (about 2 ounces) coarsely chopped walnuts, toasted
Preheat to 375. Combine the flours, salt, and baking soda in a small bowl. Set aside. Combine butter and sugars until pale and fluffy. Mix in egg and vanilla. Add mashed banana. Mix in flour mixture. Add in chocolate chips. Put on cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake for about 11 minutes.
My way: sub the whole wheat flour for regular, forget the walnuts, leave the chocolate alone.
My sister who doesnt like bananas loved these! My friend, Chris, who went to the beach with me ate a lot, though I'm not sure if he was just being nice. Next time I think I want to add in the pecans and whole wheat flour.
Now, about the beach. Chris went for the weekend, and I went just for the day to hangout. It was not hot, but not cold. And it was virtually empty. Very nice. Lots of little kids and humorous high school drama. Apparently Briggs is gay/sexy/stupid. Silly kids.
I went to the beach with my girlfriends, and we flirted with the boys, but I don't remember us being that soap operaish about it. Or being so flighty. Being at the beach made me miss those days a bit. Where I had the whole week to spend laying out, swimming and flirting- all on someone elses tab. Ahhh.
Back to the present. Chris and I hung out and talked. I made him read me parts of my homework. We both got horribly burnt and he had to explain to me that Billy the Kid was not a pirate.

A Life of Her Own: The Transformation of a Countrywoman in 20th Century France
I read this book for class and adored it. The orginal title is Wild Herb Soup, and both titles are appropriate as she is truely has her own life and is influenced by the people and places around her . The book is the story of Emilie Carles's life in France.
It details her life as a peasant girl, school teacher, wife, hotel owner and political activist. Emilie's life and personality is a combonation of her environment and her experiences. She is influenced by her peasant upbringings, her father and her husband but she is not them. She is Emilie and she has what it takes to live the life that she desires to live- a life of helping others.
Emilie's tale is artfully woven and describes the roughness of peasant life. the effects war, political tension and the consequences of standing up in what you belive in.

Updates
I've finally caught my books of 2010 list up to speed. Hopefully, I'll get the chance this week to write reviews/descriptions of the books. I'm cheating a bit and including some of the books I've read for school, because lets face it- I've a ton to read for school, and if I've enjoyed the books, why shouldn't I include them on my list?
The books I mentoned in my last ATM post have really paid of for me, at work and in school. I had to do a career project and Ogilvy's books gave me a jumpstart on the background I needed!
This week I'm hoping to squeeze in two baking products-some type of banana chocolate chunk cookie and apple pie cupcakes. I'd also like to make dinner one night but I'm not sure time will allow.
Well, off to do more homework so I can those projects underway.

Its been way too long
I apoligize for the HUGE gap in my blogging life, but the fact is -real life just caught up to me. I've got two more classes here then when I was in Scotland, paired with all of my social activities, my new job and managing a long distance engagement as just left me too busy to blog.

I'm heading to Hartsvegas for Spring Break where I'm hopeing to catch up on the piles of homework I've been neglecting, finish my projects for work, read a fun book and make another card or two for upcoming events. And I've recently won a copy of Falling into the Sun: A Novel
by Charrie Hazard, that hope to read, in additon to sending out some internship applications. Oh and the bestie, her beau and I are hopeing to take a day trip to Charleston!
